In 2006, A'ima McManus was encouraged to enter the “Faces of Nu’uanu” design competition that was sponsored by renowned designers Takeo and Eric Chandler in conjunction with the Louis Pohl Gallery. Without formal design training and facing 30 studied designers, she walked the runway herself and captured first place in the “Island Wear” division. Her innovative dress and unique accessories seen here impressed the judges and started her on her new design creative journey.

That creative journey has paved the path for the development of her own company A'IMA.

Calling upon the ease and comfort of the pareau (sarong), she developed a unique style of ease and convenience into her original clothing line.

Her background as an entertainer with the legendary Hawaiian musical group Puamana prepared her well to establish herself as an innovative creator in the fashion industry.  She credits her mother, Irmgard Aluli, as one of her mentors and continues to draw inspiration from the fashion sense that was part of years of entertaining that propelled Puamana to prominence in the Hawaiian music industry.

This multi-talented performer, musician, singer and writer is now adding a new career with the A'IMA clothing line.
